I encountered this fox while hiking in breath-taking Gran Paradiso National Park about 12 years ago. She emerged silently from the forest along a trail, stopped and stared, clearly hungry – with kits hidden nearby. She reappeared several times along the trail – once beneath the do not feed the foxes signs. I’d brought strong-smelling cheese in my backpack.
Recently I’ve been trying to recapture the timeless mystery in her stare.
